Don't let that keep you from making a big, risky career decision, says ex-BET Networks CEO Debra Lee. Success and self-doubt aren't mutually exclusive," Lee, 69, recently told LinkedIn video series The Path. She worked to attend Ivy League universities and get a law degree because her father told her to, she said. Their hesitancy further fueled her sense of self-doubt, which had grown with each previous career decision, Lee added. Her self-doubt became an asset at BET, pushing her to work harder and think outside the box in her new role, she said.

When we saw Everlane's new collection, the messages in our style team's Slack group started flying. As always with Everlane, the thing that took us aback was how brilliantly they executed a collection that turns trendy pieces into ultra-practical staples. But this drop absolutely nailed it by releasing our favorite pieces in organic colors like sage green, sandy brown, and oyster white. Ashley Phillips, former style editor, reviewed Everlane's ReKnit mules and wrote: "This is my first pair of Everlane shoes with the brand's ReKnit material, and I love it! I really like that these mules have a cushioned footbed and a low, sturdy block heel that's easy to wear all day."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Richard Roundtree, the trailblazing actor who starred as the ultra-smooth private detective in several “Shaft” films beginning in the early 1970s, has died. Roundtree’s “Shaft” was part of a change in how Black movies were viewed in Hollywood, which failed to consider Black actors – especially for leading roles — in projects at the time. Isaac Hayes’ “Shaft” theme song — which included the line “You a bad mother— (Shut your mouth)” — helped insinuate the original movie into the pop-cult consciousness. After the film’s success, Roundtree returned in sequels “Shaft’s Big Score” in 1972 and “Shaft in Africa” in 1973. Roundtree reprised his role in the 2000 “Shaft” film, a revival that starred Samuel L. Jackson.

But of 72 companies ranked by a sustainability nonprofit over the past year, few are close to achieving their 2030 targets. Last year, Ceres launched an effort to press companies with large water footprints to protect those resources and address related financial risks. On Wednesday, the group released an analysis that found most of the assessed companies — including such powerhouses as Coca-Cola, General Mills and Amazon — have set targets but aren't close to meeting them. “There’s no doubt that companies need to do better,” said Kirsten James, senior program director for water at Ceres. Ceres said the companies were chosen from the four sectors based on factors including size and their impact on water.

“Quiet luxury, oh God,” Isabel Wilkinson Schor, the designer of Attersee, said with a small sigh. “I don’t consider us a part of that trend at all. It’s been around for a very long time, and it’s equated with minimalism. I don’t see what we are doing as minimalism.”Attersee, which Ms. Wilkinson Schor founded in 2021, is known for the kinds of high quality, strokeable fabrics associated with the trend. The impetus for the line was simply to find everyday clothes that were comfortable and beautiful, not the kind of thing that would be worn only to a big event once a year.

I'd lived in New York City for 35 years, but Paris had been in the back of my mind since 2016. COVID-19 quashed an earlier attempt to leave New York City in March 2020, so almost two years later, I boarded the plane shortly after my 79th birthday. I chose Paris for a few reasonsHaving spent about half of my adult years enjoying New York City, I wanted something else for the penultimate stage of life. The learning continuesThough I sold my New York apartment for a nice price, it wasn't enough for an appropriate place in Paris. The dream of visiting Paris usually includes spending your days going to museums and having coffee at sidewalk cafés.

Where did “Tyrone” start for you? I knew I wanted to do a mystery, like a bootleg Scooby-Doo where the detectives are inadequate but somehow uniquely equipped. He had gotten arrested for something when we were 18 or 19 that ended up changing the course of his life. I started thinking a lot about blame and responsibility and that’s when all the elements of the movie came together. A lot of times it’s a song, or a piece of score and I’ll be trying to recapture how that feels.

The emissions were equal to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of more than 59,000 automobiles, according to the EPA’s greenhouse gas equivalency calculator. Under such a scenario Duke Energy would likely have years of low emissions punctuated by a single year of high emissions. While other utilities have participated for decades in a voluntary program with the EPA to reduce SF6 emissions to next to nothing, Duke Energy has not. Brooks said Duke Energy is also targeting its most leaky equipment for faster replacement. The figure is roughly half of 1% of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, far smaller than yearly emissions of carbon dioxide, the primary driver of climate change.
